How many times have you heard "I'm too busy" - or how many times have you turned down a friend, an opportunity or an event because you are "too busy." I honestly have no doubt that you have lots going on in your life... but have you really examined it? Have you HONESTLY looked at your priorities, timed out your day and paid ATTENTION to how you are becoming too busy for even life itself?
I was challenged Tuesday to take a good hard look at where I'm spending my time. As a full time nurse, a fitness/nutrition coach, a lover of running and all things fitness, a girlfriend and friend - I'm far too of this guilty habit of claiming to be "busy." YUCK. I'm telling you i'm really beginning to hate the word....
In the world of do more, live more with less & do it yesterday approach its so easy to get wrapped up in it! I was challenged on Tuesday to plan out my day. Hour by Hour. Minute by minute. Find my priorities and tasks to complete and just simply..DO THEM. No distractions. My mission: To see if I could do it..and to see where I'm wasting this oh so precious time!
"Time is what we want most - but use worst - William Penn
Does this sound extreme? Well maybe to some - but It really did amaze me at how much can be accomplish when you set out to do something with intention and attention. (yes to both.) The following is how I spent my day...
3:30 to 3:45: Personal Development reading - current read: Jab Jab Jab Right Hook
3:45-4:00: Make Breakfast
4:00-5:00: Create blog post, scheduled upcoming posts and checked in on current challenge groups
5:30-2:00: Nursing shift
Lunch - 12:00-12:30: Lunch break while commenting and building relationships on instagram
2:00-2:20: Ran a few errands after work
2:30-4:00: Went to my favorite coffee shop to do business work. Did my business training assignment for the day, scheduled this week's posts, did my "power half hour" and followed up with 5 clients.
4:00-5:00: got home and: did the dishes, made the bed, brought the garbage out, made supper and cleaned up
5:00-6:00: time to unplug and spend time with my man! Also showered and did some enjoyable reading
6:00-7:00: packed B's lunch for the next day, folded laundry and continued to unplug.
7:00-8:00: returned all messages to my clients, gave shoutouts & checked in with groups one last time for the day
8:00-9:00: time to unwind. Mindless TV and relaxation :)
9:30: crawled into bed!
I'm not telling you this to brag about my awesome busy day. Ha! We should NOT be wearing ourselves out and using that as a "badge of honor" Self care is important too. My days do NOT normally start this early - but things have to be adjusted sometimes if you truly care about wanting to meet your goals. (and when you start your nursing shift at 5:30 am)
But I truly was amazed that if you TAKE TIME to write out your intentions and schedule your day accordingly you will make the most of the time you have! It is the lack of direction that makes a difference - we all have the SAME 24 hours in a day. How you choose to spend it is in your hands.
Lack of time? Or is it Lack of DIRECTION?
Working full time and sleeping still leaves you SIXTY SEVEN hours to create your dreams. If you intentionally spent your time - what would YOU CHOOSE to do in your "spare time" you created for yourself? Are you guilty of being too busy? Yes or no. How do you save yourself time? What are your guilty time wasters?
